Stretta does simple fresh Italian. It's not complicated or pretentious: It's about people getting together and enjoying good food, at a reasonable price.
Our menu is small, but well considered. Our no-fuss approach utilises authentic and classic components such as bufala mozzarella, Italian flour, fresh homemade tomato sauce and wood fired pizza. We do pizzas, pastas, various mains, salads, desserts and pastries. Our breakfast menu is also very popular as are our regular lunch specials.
Our bar menu, equally honest, focuses on craft beers, a small wine selection and quality artisanal coffee. Key to the food experience is service and we pride ourselves on excellent service and warm and good-natured staff. We want our customers to feel at home at Stretta.
Some of our most popular dishes include:
Wood fired pizzas: The Bufala, with buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes & fresh basil, and the Venezia, topped with chorizo, bacon, feta and fresh tomato.
Pastas: Pasta Gorgonzola is a feast for the eyes as rigatoni is served with creamy gorgonzola sauce topped with parma ham and fresh rocket while the Picanti, a serving of penne with bolognaise, cream, brandy and a dash of the homemade chilli, is a flavour sensation. The D'Pietro is another not to miss with prawns, olive oil, garlic, chilli, lemon juice and parsley.
Mains: The pizza-oven-roasted Baby Chicken served with a choice of lemon & herb or peri-peri is also popular, as is the Veal Limone, pan fried in a lemon butter sauce. Occasionally we also offer fresh fish.
Breakfasts: Stretta’s toasted Breakfast Panini, with homemade tomato salsa, crispy bacon, fried egg and wild rocket is already a local legend, along with Greg’s Breakfast Pans – combinations such as bacon, potato, onion, rosemary and eggs presented in the pan.
For desserts the menu changes regularly, and features Italian classics such as homemade Tiramisu and Crème Brulee. Fresh muffins are baked in the restaurant daily.
The original Stretta Cucina at the Heritage Market in Hillcrest (openend 2010), was long and thin and so was named after the Italian for "narrow kitchen". Stretta Cafe opened at its current location at the Colony Centre, Hillcrest, in July 2013, with the addition of some of Durban's best coffee and baristas, in the form of Lineage coffee.
Stretta caters for all ages and is has a kids eating area, wheelchair access and designated smoking areas. All are welcome.
