If it’s fine Indian cuisine you are looking for, Sitar is for you. Located in the bustling Cresta Shopping centre in Gauteng, this family run restaurant is a delectable example of tasty traditional Indian food. Run superbly by Keith and Eve, Sitar is a must try for anyone wanting to quench their spicy craving!
The relaxed ambiance is friendly and bright, with beautiful fresh flowers and a distinguishing characteristic of mural paintings to emphasize the high ceilings. There is also a large array of aromatic wines on offer, or alternatively the best drinks to accompany your traditional Indian food are Sitars refreshing lassi or masala chai.
Start with spinach pakoras (a version of the chilli bite), paneer finger pakoras (fingers of homemade cheese, dipped in chickpea flour and deep-fried), or try a poppadum topped with a layer of fresh tomato and onion chilli. The mains include great Indian dishes such as the lamb dopiaza with garam masala and cumin or a Mughal dish made with lots of onion or if you are looking for something from the sea, the kingklip and prawn biryani with saffron, cream and butter is a definite must try. Those with a sweet tooth should try for a peshwari naan (studded with cashews, raisins and a bit of sugar) for dessert, or attempt one of the more traditional sweets like gulab jamun, kheer or burfee ice cream.
