Chef Pon, the man who introduced Thai Food from Bangkok to the Cape Town restaurant scene back in 1992 with Chef Pon's Restaurant, has now opened a new restaurant in Rheede Street Mall. Sawaddee Thai Restaurant, which is run by proud husband and wife team, offers only the best Thai cuisine.
Many people think of Thai food as spicy. In truth, dishes run the gamut from pleasantly mild to piquantly spicy. The menu offers fresh Thai food from the highest quality ingredients. Starters include old favourites such as Duck Spring Rolls and Steamed Prawn & Calamari Dim Sum served with soya sauce. The Soups and Salads also offer fresh tantalising favourites such as the Tom Yam Khung (a spicy hot and sour soup) and Grilled Beef Salad served Thai-style with garlic, chilli and coriander.
The Main Menu is extensive and offers something for everyone ranging from poultry, ostrich, seafood and meat options such as their Sesame Chicken with coriander and sesame seeds or the Spicy Mongolian Ostrich. This unique dish is served with vegetables and stir-fried with chilli oil. Then of course, for the brave, the Jungle Beef Curry is available to burn your taste buds into submission.
The Noodle dishes offer various non- and vegetarian options and the comprehensive Sushi Menu offers a wonderful assortment of well known favourites and exciting new tastes. To finish of your Thai experience, why not indulge in Sawaddee's tempting desserts such as Lychees served with ice cream or Sago with coconut milk.
