Sao Goncalo’s Longships adds a ‘touch of Portuguese’ to the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay. The eatery was resurrected in 2006 after the local watering hole, ‘Old Nicks’ received a major revamping. With endless hours of time and an unbridled passion having been invested into the eatery, Sao Goncalo's Longships is widely known for its Portuguese specialities; flame-grilled chicken, steak and ocean-fresh line fish. A visit here will immerse you into the culture, where you’ll be warmly embraced by the staff and introduced to the culinary delights of Portugal.
During summertime, diners can enjoy a meal under the shade of a tree in Sao Goncalo’s beautifully manicured garden while the comfortable interior acts as a warm refuge for patrons looking to escape the cold in winter.
The ‘Portuguese Chouriço’ has a bit of a kick to it, so if you’ve got a pallet for spice and chilli, this delicacy is worth trying out. This dish is served with a generous helping of chouriço that is prepared in a mild peri-peri sauce, served with peppadews, jalapeños and olives.
Sea-food loving patrons can choose between a vast selection of fish, shellfish and calamari for mains. The signature ‘Mussel Pot’ comes highly recommended, and consists of mussels in a creamy dill and a garlic sauce, served with a garlic roll for dipping purposes. Alternatively, the ‘East Coast Sole and Fried Calamari’ gives you an extra-large grilled sole in an almond crusting, served with calamari and sides of boiled potato and fresh vegetables – certainly a favourite among regular patrons.
For the thirsty, choose between a selection of drinks – ranging from cold beverages to the decadent ‘Bar One Milkshake' and various beers and ciders.
