South Africa’s favourite chef Reuben Riffel debuts his first urban restaurant at One&Only Cape Town. Serving deceptively simple local cuisine, this award-winning chef brings an element of purity and boundless creativity to classic South African dishes at Reuben’s. Part of Reuben’s signature menu approach has been his ability to marry Cape and South African ingredients with international styles.

The restaurant itself has a sophisticated but unfussy, brasserie feel. Using flavours that mirror the incredible diversity of his home country, the menu ranges from Springbok loin and Namaqua lamb to West Coast oysters and fresh market-bought line fish. “There is a strong seasonal and South African thread on our menu – I enjoy showcasing our best ingredients and it’s been an interesting notion introducing the idea of an ever changing restaurant concept menu to a large hotel - but so far so good”, he says. The bistro boards in the restaurant advertise the chef’s specials based on the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients, diners will be hard pressed to choose between the familiar favourites and the seasonal specialities. This is why they keep coming back for more.

The Sunday lunch buffet is a family affair and is excellent value for money priced at only R195.00 per person (with different prices for children). This lunch gives families the chance to reinvent the ritual of sitting around a table, enjoying a delicious Sunday lunch, a fabulous roast and catching up with one another. Thus offering an opportunity to celebrate old-fashioned family values in a modern setting.

A magnificent tri-level wall of glass and steel commands the entrance to the impressive Wine Loft adjacent to Reuben’s. The moment guests step inside, the complex aromas combined with the depth of flavours take them on a tantalizing journey of the Cape Winelands.

When creating the list, emphasis was placed on terroir and regional styles. With nearly 5000 bottles and over 600 references, oenophiles can delight in prestigious vintages as well as discover up-and-coming South African boutique wines. The Sommelier’s Table, on the mezzanine level offers an exceptional introduction to the region’s vineyards. The cellar also offers rare and sought-after vintages from producers such as Meerlust, Vergelegen, Kanonkop, Warwick, Thelema and Eben Sadie’s Columella and Palladius. The Sommelier’s Table seats a maximum of 12 guests and is available for private dining and private wine tastings.
