Milner House restaurant is situated in the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Parktown, Johannesburg. The "Sunnyside Park" is historically the most important building in Parktown. It was built for the American Mining Engineer Hennen Jennings who was employed by the Corner House (Rand Mines). Hennen Jennings (1854-1920) was an American Mining engineer trained at Harvard and brought to this country as a Consulting Engineer. Sunnyside was designed by the well-known pioneer architect Frank Emley in the picturesque Neo-Queen Anne style. The contrast between the red-brick walls and the white woodwork and plaster details is typical of the late Victorian period. It has been considerably altered but it still retains that characteristic of the ‘Villa’ as opposed to the square town houses. The ground floor is the oldest remaining structure in Parktown.
Milner House is a restaurant that offers a wide array of delectable dishes on an al a carte menu that would suit any appetite, they also offer a delicious buffet with freshly made food. The layout is charming, with a distinct Victorian style, and while you enjoy your meal you can experience a picturesque view of the well-kept gardens on the estate. So if you would like a calm meal, at a national monument and heritage site, Milner House is definitely for you.
