In the heart of Mount Edgecombe's country club district, bistro restaurant Marco Paulo, has become one of the local favourites. You will always find owners, Paul Sheppard and Brenton "Billy" Franks (who met while working at ever-popular Spiga D'Oro), front of house greeting clients as if they are old friends. Not only do they source their fresh produce themselves during the day, but have found themselves happily delivering dishes to the locals in the evening as well.
The interior is a combination of bright colour, subtle wood and gentle cream shades. The tables are wood panelled with glass, beautifully emphasize by the parquet flooring, while the one wall is adorned by brightly coloured canvas blocks, shooting a dash of colour across the restaurant. On the opposite wall black and white photos proudly display 9 well-known winemakers emphasizing the attention given to their choice of wine list.
Paul enjoys spending time in the kitchen cooking up various signature dishes for the evening's dinner service and even though they are mostly homestyle meals, they are usually the first to be sold out. He likes using less popular cuts like hanger steak or pork neck, giving customers something “off the beaten path”. The decadent desserts are always freshly prepared, so be sure to ask your waitron what is available on the day.
Driving on the N2 north bound take the exit 182 to join the M14 toward Mount Edgecombe and keep left. Take your first left turn towards Flanders Drive. (Landmarks Quick Spar & Engen Garage) At the Stop street turn left, go past the Engen garage and take the first right into Golf Course Drive. Arrive at gate 2 Marco Paula is on the right hand side.
