Kong Sing, which means ‘Bright Star’ in Mandarin, is primarily a Chinese restaurant offering the full range of Chinese dishes. The restaurant’s goal is to share the flavours of China and through the delicious food, expose a little bit of the Chinese culture too. As a bonus, they have a sushi bar too, in case Chinese fare is not your personal favourite.
The restaurant’s décor is simple and yet there are some strong Chinese influences, as you would expect. The colour scheme of red and yellow is strongly reminiscent of the typical red and gold lanterns, and indeed there are paper lanterns covering the lights, ensuring the restaurant has a soft, homely glow as opposed to glaring lights. The red is picked up on some of the walls, while the yellow is represented in the table cloths. There is also an outdoor seating area to enjoy.
The menu, which is prepared by native Chinese chefs, includes all the favourites, and then some. Kong Sing offers a variety of wontons, spring rolls and dumplings (Dim Sum). You can choose between set menus which have soup, fried rice, bowties and jasmine tea in common as well as delights specific to each menu such as tempura prawns, sweet ‘n sour kingklip fillet or beef chop suey. You can of course design your own meal from chop suey (rice), chow mein (noodles), foo yong (omelette) and numerous traditional meat, poultry and fish dishes, with sauces such as black bean or sweet ‘n sour sauce.
Kong Sing is located within the Bedford Centre, ensuring sufficient, safe and convenient parking.
