Kaya Beach offers a unique dining experience to beach-loving patrons. While Bredell might not be at the seaside, the eatery brings the seaside to this small Kempton Park suburb. The island-themed restaurant is a place of merriment and relaxation, where guests are able to wiggle their toes in the sand, drink a refreshing beer and feast on authentic South African meals.
Things work a little differently at Kaya Beach as diners are asked bring along their six-packs of cold brew or bottles of Merlot while an acclaimed group of chefs prepare a gourmet six-course meal. Take a seat outside on whitewashed benches or under a large marquee to escape the heat. Eclectic maritime ornaments such as life jackets, surfboards, and diving suits are found throughout the restaurant and an out-of-use speedboat is perfect for kids to explore. During the evening when there is a chill in the air, bonfires are lit to keep patrons warm.
As for the food, patrons are advised to come ravenous as they will be treated to an indulgent Five-course meal. As one might expect from a beach-inspired eatery, you start off your "Island Experience" with a deliciouse creamy Mussel soup with garden Salad, accompanied with fresh farm style bread, this is served as a starter and is bound to whet the appetite, for even the more discerning of customers. A chicken potjie and vegetable pot makes for a wholesome second course, with an optional extra 12 prawns or Snoek or both simply delicious in a lemon butter sauce. To be ordered prior to visit.
To keep customers from getting too full, there is a thirty to forty minute wait in-between meals. During that time, diners can relax with friends around the bonfire, or cosy up to a loved one while listening to a great selection of back ground music.
The fourth and fifth courses are proudly South African fare. Devour hearty bowl of beef potjie and end your meal with the Afrikaans sweet treat, koeksisters, accompanied by a freshly brewed mug of Tea or coffee.
