Jimmy Jimalo Bar & Grill was opened by owner Jimmy and his wife Marcia in 2017. The restaurant is located at 8 Vredenberg Street, just off Long Street in Cape Town CBD, a little gem hidden away. Jimmy and Marcia’s vision for Jimmy Jimalo is to become the CBD’s best authentic African food outlet with a Zimbabwean influence.
The restaurant has informal indoor and outdoor seating, a bar area and is divided into two areas. There are casual wooden tables and chairs some bench seats, couches and coffee tables to add to the relaxed environment. The outdoor seating is in the courtyard with wooden tables and chairs under a covered area, with scattered pot plants, giving you a lovely alfresco option to enjoy your tasty meal. There is live music from 8pm onwards in the evenings on Friday and Saturday, as well as on some Sundays.
The menu at Jimmy Jimalo is strictly African, it is a traditional African restaurant with truly traditional and authentic food. Popular starters include the Kwe Kwe Chicken wings and deep fried fish strips. Almost all the main meals are served with pap, options include the Pap and Beef stew, Pap and steak, Pap and chicken and some unusual options such as Pap and cow hooves or Pap and Tripe.
Head west towards Cape Town on Nelson Mandela Boulevard/N2. Take the Strand Street exit and then merge onto Newmarket Street. Continue onto Strand Street and then turn left onto Long Street. Continue straight ahead on Long Street and then turn left onto Vredenburg Lane. Jimmy Jimalo Bar & Grill will on the left.
