Jakes, a stylish restaurant, café and bar, wraps around a Brazilian Pepper Tree and covered courtyard, where guests can enjoy Al Fresco dining in a cheerful, friendly and noisy atmosphere. The restaurant itself has a number of interleading rooms which are great for birthdays, get togethers, business lunches and functions.
In March 2002 Jakes in the Village was opened in Steenberg, becoming an immediate hit with locals from Tokai, Constantia, Hout Bay and elsewhere. Like Jakes on Summerley, Jakes in the Village is a Parisian style café, restaurant and bar with prints by Tous Le Trec and a stylish but fun and festive ambience. Where Jakes on Summerly is set in an old house with an intimate and cosy atmosphere, Jakes in the Village has contemporary architecture with an industrial feel. Both restaurants have identical menus featuring mouth watering dishes prepared under the watchful eye of Executive Chef, David Payne. Not on the menu but worth asking for is the excellent Roast Duck. Other favourites include Lambs Knee, slowly cooked in a rich gravy and served with mint sauce, roast potatoes and veg, and the Calamari which can be prepared in a Cajun sauce or dusted and deep fried. Jakes has a full menu for Lunch and Dinner plus a Café Lunch menu for lighter meals.
