Ginger and Fig is a trendy artisanal eatery based in Pretoria. After 10 years in IT, owner Zane Figueiredo made a radical career shift to pursue his lifelong dream to be a chef. With a focus on homemade, preservative free, freshly baked, free range and organic foods, it is a must try for all the discerning diners out there.
Figueiredo‘s menu focuses on simple, well-balanced, mouth-watering dishes. Ginger and Fig serves primarily breakfasts and light meals. Popular items include the hand-cut rib-eye burgers - interesting toppings include mushroom ketchup, house pickles and house-cured and -smoked bacon. The gourmet sandwiches span a pork belly open sandwich and a slow brisket sandwich with coleslaw and pickles. The salads are crisp and fresh and there is also a selection of pasta for the extra hungry. For those with a sweet tooth, treat yourself to Zane’s buttermilk or one of their stunning cakes.
The ambience at Ginger and Fig is modern, hip and one of a kind. The open kitchen allows patrons the unique opportunity to catch a peek at the chefs working their culinary magic. Situated at the upmarket Brooklyn Centre, with its array of designer shopping outlets, the restaurant is also a perfect spot for an after work or after shopping cocktail. The Arnold Palmer or the Shirley Temple cocktails come highly recommended.
