Situated at 8 Bree Street in the Touchstone House Building, Folk Coffee Anthropology is the place to be seen if you love the buzz of the coffee culture.
This is a welcoming café style eatery offering superb coffee (to drink in-store, take-away or to buy for the home or office), light meals, delectable croissants (rumoured to be the CBD’s best), delightful main meals for lunch or dinner, Tapas, fine wine and an intimate, vibey atmosphere. Open from 7am every day except Sunday (when the outlet is closed) this venue is hugely popular at breakfast time when the coffee and croissant aromas are at their peak.
The interior is slightly industrial looking with exposed ceilings, but there are warm touches of wood, elaborate shelving overloaded with bottles of fine wine, tiled areas behind the coffee station and a charming black & white material awning at the entrance, as well as a deli fridge with fabulous eats and cool drinks, for those in a rush.
There is a serving area with a counter and seating on the one side, a comfortable relaxing area complete with a couch, adorned with scatter cushions. There are different seating options throughout as well as a quirky bicycle suspended on one of the walls. It’s an intimate, welcoming spot to hang out in at any time of day, as it’s equally popular in the late afternoon and early evening, when people arrive after work to relax with a glass of wine and a bite to eat.
The menu features delightful sandwich options, a wrap and some exciting Tapas which include a Cheese Platter, a Charcuterie Platter, A Taste Board and a Tapas Board. If you fancy a burger you can build your own from a choice of beef, butterflied chicken fillet or veggie patty made with lentils, chickpeas and roasted butternut. If you’re hungry opt for The Beast (a 450gm T-bone steak) with either a Tapas topping or a speciality sauce like Brown Mushroom & Thyme or Blue Cheese Bechamel.
Other options include the Super Salad, Voila Salad, Buttered Up Salad or Pasta of the Day. The Tapas selection also includes various Flatbreads, Sliders, a Tomato Soup Shooter, Haloumi Cheese Strips and Chorizo & Caper Berries with Ciabatta Toast so there’s definitely something for every palate at Folk Coffee Anthropology.
