Observatory's every popular Cafe Ganesh, well known for its African/South African cuisine and arty decor, has now opened a daytime venue along the same Afro centric theme in front of its original restaurant situated at 38 Trill Road, just off Lower Main Road. This is the entrance to use in the evenings, but during the day enter Cafe Ganesh via the daytime entrance on Lower Main Road.
The interior of this space is interesting and full of character with brightly painted floors, a quaint balcony for summer days or evenings, comfortable furniture including a couch to relax on as well as plants and high ceilings, with lots of space between the tables and beautiful artwork on the walls in the rear section, which the owner himself has produced. It has an art gallery feel that is slightly Bohemian and offers a vibrant "local" atmosphere – a truly unique experience.
Cafe Ganesh is incredibly popular with tourists who want to enjoy authentic local cuisine as well as local students, artists, musicians and foodies. It offers an opportunity to truly relax and enjoy an African meal of ample proportions at an affordable price. The staff is friendly and happy to chat to clients about the popular meal options or offer advice about what to order, according to each person's preference.
The evening menu features popular South African favourites like Samoosas, Rotis, Bobotie, Pap (maize porridge) & Veg, Grilled Springbok, Chicken Satay, Lamb Curry, Lamb and Ostrich Burger and Lamb Shank Potjie as well as some other light meals that are suitable for lunch.
There is a varied selection of vegetarian options and some exceptional desserts like Lemon Meringue and Chocolate Brownie that are all well worth coming back for. Don't forget to peruse the chalk board for Daily Specials.
