Bu Ya is situated in the heart of Gardens at 64 Kloof Street and it’s a trendy Ramen and Sake Bar. The interior is Japanese themed with a bar on the one side. It’s a fairly clean space in terms of décor with dark wood furniture and a peaceful tranquil interior. It’s a wonderful, welcome relief to step inside after being on the busy street. The menu has been thoughtfully put together by the owner/chef who has travelled extensively internationally and created it while incorporating some of his own elements thus bringing us a delightful Asian fusion.

If you’re after Tapas which is absolutely ideal for sharing or eating at any time of the day - which is also an ideal light meal - this is definitely the place for you. Options range from Coconut Tempura Prawns with Mango Sauce - to Fried Chicken & Black Pepper Shao Mai - Or Blanched Edamame Beans with Rock Salt. Alternatively choose the Vegetable & Chive Pot Stickers Or Crab Cakes with Black Bean & Garlic Or Crispy Prawn Wontons unless you prefer classic Vegetable Spring Rolls with Sweet Chilli & Ginger.

The other option is to start with Tapas and move on to Ramen which also offers some truly unusual, mouth-watering options. These dishes include ingredients like bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, scallions, fresh herbs, zesty lemon broth, corn, radish, nori, kimchi and marinated egg as a base with other more exotic flavours like pulled beef short rib, Japanese braised pork belly or 5 spice grilled chicken that beautifully combine to finalize the dish. There’s Spicy Miso Beef or Lemon Chicken, Vegetable Shio or Coconut Miso Chasu, Chashu Shoyu or Grilled Chicken Shio or Beef Shoyu, Whichever one of the Ramen dishes you choose you’ll be in for a treat because they’re all absolutely jam packed with fresh, delicate, flavourful ingredients that combine superbly to give you the delightful fusion of flavours that only Ramen is famous for.

Apart from the enticing, delightful menu the space is ideally suited to small group get-togethers, meetings, special occasions or more leisurely meals or superb sundowners and cocktails around the bar. The average meal costs about ±R80 and the venue is open until late so it’s perfect to pop in to en route to an evening out or on the way home for either a meal or a drink before turning in. The hands-on passionate chef/owner and his friendly team of well trained staff will make you feel welcome and offer you Japanese hospitality in the heart of Cape Town. And don’t forget to ask for a glass of Sake while you’re there.
