The Bannister Hotel
is a stylish and friendly, independent hotel situated in the heart of Braamfontein, one of Johannesburg’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.
The restaurant and bar at The Bannister are designed to be a ‘home away from home’ and we welcome you whether you want: a long lunch with friends; a delicious heartwarming dinner; a business breakfast; or have a good ‘ol party night out on a Friday and Saturday.
Our restaurant offers hearty, contemporary Pan African fare and South African favourites.
Our popular bar offers everything under the sun including select local wines, craft beer, fabulous cocktails and a great selection of whiskeys and gins.
We offer a special weekend brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays, always with interesting new locally inspired dishes and cosmopolitan flavor combinations.
Come get a taste of the true Johannesburg.
From Gautrain & Parkstation
We are about 700 meters from the Gautrain. You walk out the station on the Gautrain side. You then turn left into Wolmarans St and walk (same direction as the traffic) until you can see Mandela Bridge ahead. Turn right in to de Beer St (one block before the bridge) and walk up until just before the traffic light. We are on your left. Try avoid walking near the station at night as there are hyenas prowling after dark
From M1 Highway
On the M1 Highway take the off-ramp for Smit St or Smit St / University. At the bottom of the off-ramp turn left. After a few hundred meters you go under Mandela Bridge. Turn at the first left into De Beer St. The hotel is on your left just before the traffic light.
Directions for Parking
The hotel is on De Beer St, between De Korte and Juta streets. From the hotel down go the road to the first corner. Turn left into Juta St. Across the next street and after 30 meters see parking garage entrance on right. The parking runs on office hours unless they are expecting you, in which case you will be allowed to park 24/7. The garage has good security. If arriving in the evening or weekends/public holidays please ask the hotel to pre-book. Parking costs R20 minimum or R40 overnight. It is a safe walk to the hotel but in the evenings request hotel security to accompany you to be sure. There is also good parking directly outside the hotel but availability is not guaranteed.
