Adega is owned and managed by well known restaurateur Luis Ferreira, who is ably assisted by a dynamic team in the kitchen. Luis has turned to his Portuguese roots to create a menu that has a distinct Portuguese flavour, and has worked tirelessly to ensure that Adega maintains its solid reputation for serving some of the best Portuguese food in Johannesburg.

Luis is also passionate about wine, which he has been buying for a number of years, and hence there is a large selection of South African and Portuguese wines available to compliment your meal. An attractive bar area provides seating for pre-drinks as well as a TV for sports fans, and Adega also offers a fine selection of cigars, ports and deluxe whisky.

There are plenty of specialties on the menu worth mentioning but the Namibian Oysters are a must for those who enjoy this succulent delicacy. In addition to the a la carte menu there are often daily specials which allow for a little creative license in the kitchen and offer added value to Adega’s many customers. Starter recommendations include the traditional Chourico sausage and the grilled Chicken Livers with onions and chilli.

The selection of seafood is excellent and the Codfish and Calamari dishes are immensely popular, together with the impressive choice of prawns and the famous Prawns Nacional which is highly recommended. The combos are the perfect solution for diners who find it hard to make a choice from the mouth watering selection of dishes available, and meat lovers will relish the Trinchado - cubes of rump steak fried in a garlic and white wine sauce.
