Chef's Profile
Chef Profile: G T Lundie

GT Lundie is a highly experienced chef who combines a classical background with an innovative and passionate approach to food. Working with the French classics, and inspired by restaurant-goers and food-loving friends, he creates fresh and modern dishes.

GT started his career as chef at Rivonia’s popular Browns Restaurant, where he had three years of valuable experience both in the kitchen and in the running of a restaurant. Keen to expand his culinary experience in a country setting, he moved on to Jatinga Country Lodge in White River. A couple of years later, he was offered the opportunity to work at Singita, a luxurious private game lodge in Mpumalanga. As a member of Relais & Chateaux and the winner of Conde Nast & Harper’s Best Business Hotel in Africa and The Middle East two years in a row, this lodge demanded excellent quality and innovation from its chefs. At Singita, GT met Lizelle, who became his wife, and they set off to explore the culinary routes of London and Scotland together. During this time abroad, GT was fortunate to work under Michelin-star chefs at Glenapp Castle, and at Relais & Chateaux Amberley Castle.

Returning to South Africa, GT was appointed head chef at Roots restaurant in the Cradle of Humankind. Roots drew acclaim and attention with its innovative menu and were rated one of the Top 10 Restaurants in the country. After two years back in South Africa, GT finally fulfilled a long-held dream of opening his own restaurant in the Lowveld when he opened the reputed Orange Restaurant in Nelspruit in November 2008. Within his first year he received one of two American Express Fine Dining Awards in Mpumalanga, one of only 12 Blazons in the country awarded by the Chaine de Rôtisseurs and a Diners Club Diamond Award for his wine list – also one of only two awarded to Mpumalanga. Three years after opening the renowned Orange Restaurant, GT relocated his winning formula to I’Langa Mall in Nelpruit where he is opened new Zest Restaurant | Fine Wines. With location and exclusivity being one of the motivational factors, Zest was moved from I’langa to the picturisc Kavinga Guest House & Venue, a mere 11km from Nelspruit.

GT is a member of the Chef's Association of South Africa and Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.
