Following on from the success of Fino in Parktown North , restaurateur Zane de Beer looks set to repeat the winning formula at Oliva. This intimate interior tucked away behind heavy wooden doors has a definite old and worn continental charm. With its distressed walls, statues and water feature, you would be forgiven for thinking that the restaurant has occupied the space for some years.

It is cosy and romantic on quieter evenings, and lively and bustling when the place is full, with a couple of tables on the pavement to cope with the overflow in the warm weather. Considering the size of the tiny kitchen, the menu is surprisingly large. It is also one of those menus that makes you instantly ravenous the moment you start to read it.
The impressive selection of starters and traditional Spanish Tapas ensures that you can eat your fill without breaking the bank, and if you share a number of dishes with the rest of your table it’s definitely the best way to eat Tapas.

Whilst you are perusing the menu, you may like to nibble on stuffed olives and roasted almonds. Then a selection of Tapas to share: Patatas Bravas - potato wedges in a rich creamy home-made tomato salsa, zucchini fingers - lightly battered and pan fried, mussels steamed in wine and sherry and served in a light tomato puree, fish puffs – hake & salmon fish cakes in a beer batter served with tartar salsa, albondigas - Spanish meatballs in a Napolitana sauce, chorizo al vino - Spanish sausage sliced and fried in red wine.
The list seems endless so take time to make your selection! Main course recommendations include several delicious risottos, as well as the pasta Orrechiette with its combination of tomato, basil, feta, avo and parmesan (a must for vegetarians). For those who have been tempted to try rabbit but never quite got round to it, now is your chance to enjoy this traditional dish cooked with herbs and white wine.
