After many years away, Louis returns to Bergvliet, where he was born and bred, and brings to the area his years of experience and dedication which spans more than 21 years. His hands on owner or chef style continue as he did at his first restaurant, Captain’s Cabin, at the top of Long Street in the mid eighties. Legendary for steaks and clientele of parliamentarians of the day.
His reputation followed him nearly a decade later to Harfield Village, where he joined as a partner to Brad’s Grill in 2nd Avenue.

Louis’ on the Block is right in the heart of Old Bergvliet in the Southern Suburbs. After extensive refurbishment to a run down little restaurant, Louis has enlarged and extended it and placed his signature on the restaurant with the furnishings, fittings and layout which includes an outside area overlooking a large park and parking area. Warm, deep reds is complimented with brass & wood and cooled by traditional pub style fans, creating a stylish and relaxed atmosphere.
All this is matched with Louis’ style of cuisine, which is traditional steakhouse fare and wood fired, thin crusted pizzas, for which he is steadily gaining a reputation. Fish is only sold fresh, so he buys in small quantities on a daily basis. Louis has a wine list to suit all tastes, from very reasonable to the discerning palate, and has a separate speciality wine list as well for the more adventurous drinker
