La Locanda has been awarded the American Express Platinum Fine Dining Award
La Locanda restaurant in George is a real Italian gem. The Soresi family, originally from Varese near Milan, opened the restaurant early in 2007 and it is clear to see that La Locanda, meaning The Welcoming Place, is run on the love of food and passion for cooking!
Head chef, known as Papa`Dario, an active Chef of Chaine des Rotisseurs, trained in Italy for many years before moving to South Africa and opening a family business with his daughter Arianna and nephew Matteo. Although their cooking is strictly Italian and traditional it does not mean you will only find pizza and pasta on the menu. They have a large variety of dishes ranging from meat to seafood.

Start your evening with a lovely Antipasto served with home-made cold meat (made at the restaurant) and a tasty Caprese salad with fresh and creamy authentic “mozzarella fior di latte” (also made by the restaurant). There are plenty of options for vegetarians as well, from the stuffed aubergine with mushroom and their hand-made panzerotti pasta filled with butternut.
At La Locanda every day is different, Pappa' Dario and Matteo keeps the menu interesting by creating a daily menu of ten or fifteen dishes to ad to their permanent A la Carte menu. All dishes are made from seasonal ingredients and fresh catch of the day, but of course – all original Italian recipes.

The wine list is moderately large, the restaurant prefer to keep a majority of boutique wine to match their unique food. You can also find a selection of imported Italian wine like the lovely Lambrusco or the Lady Chianti. La Locanda have a well stock bar with all of your local or imported spirit and liqueur, and naturally don’t forget to ask for a nice grappa or lemoncello at diner end!
You can enjoy a refreshing glass of wine on a hot summer day in the lovely garden of La Locanda, surrounded by lavender and lemon trees. The sweet sound of the water feature is all you need to relax after a stressful day at work. The inside décor will remind you of a real Tuscany home, full of warm colour and traditional paintings. In each room you can experience a magic atmosphere.
