Having established its name in the southern suburbs with stores in Newlands and Steenberg, Mamma Roma has spread its wings with the opening of their third establishment in the prestigious Stellenbosch Square on the R44. With plenty of parking and glorious views the location is excellent and whether you want a leisurely lunch or an al fresco dinner for two, Mamma Roma has all the right ingredients to make your meal a memorable one.

The delightful interior features a double volume ceiling complete with eye-catching mural and impressive contemporary-style chandelier. A faux stone staircase and upstairs façade cleverly conceals the cloakrooms, whilst enhancing the continental ambience. Soft paint-techniqued walls, well-upholstered comfortable seating, and crisp white napery are offset by the dark wood of the bar and reception counters to complete the sophisticated well-appointed look. The outside patio has pretty flowerbeds and well developed olive trees which help to screen the area from the car park, but still allow diners the chance to view the surrounding mountains and vineyards.

The menu is substantial with a good selection of pasta sauces, house specialities and plenty of seafood. Starter recommendations include the grilled Calamari, deep-fried Camembert and the Carpaccio - take your pick from meat, fish or game. Popular pasta choices are the Pescatore - mixed seafood in a tomato or olive oil and garlic sauce, and the Italian Sausage in Arrabiata Sauce. Both the Rack of Lamb and the Baby Beef are recommended house specialities, as is the Fritto Misto combination of Kingklip, Calamari and Prawns.
