Due to a court case regarding the use of the word soul, Soulsa in Mellville had to undergo a name change. The owners, the staff, the food and decor are all the same!!
"Star newspaper food critic Georgina Crouth, formerly Haupt, chose Lucky Bean as one of her 10 favourite restaurants of 2009."
The beautiful tree mural in the restaurant, inspired by the Erythrina Lysistemon this tree is also known as the Coral Tree, die Kanniedood (cannot die) and the Lucky Bean Tree, has been seen around the world. It has featured in Swissair and British Airways in-flight magazines as well as in Lonely Planet and numerous other publications and TV programs. The seeds of the Lucky Bean tree are used in traditional medicine, (muti) and as lucky charms. The trees were planted on the graves of Chiefs.

Situated in the cosmopolitan “village” of Melville, Lucky Bean is a warm and inviting restaurant featuring food that is funky and fresh, relying on good products and simple presentation; warm efficient service and a general good “vibe”. Un-pretentious and authentic Lucky Bean is ideal for relaxed brunches, long lunches, intimate dinners or just a great time with your friends.
We love our wine-list that we believe to be one of the most interesting and reasonably priced in Gauteng. Lucky Bean also featured at last years, “Taste of Joburg” festival which is based on the “Taste of London”.
