20 years is a long time for any high profile restaurant to remain in business, but when that restaurant is La Madelaine, it comes as no surprise to learn that it continues to attract a host of politicians, celebrities, and well traveled businessman who mingle comfortably with the loyal local community. La Madelaine has a string of awards attached to its name thanks to the incredible devotion of master chefs, Daniel and Karine Leusch, who continue to impress patrons with dishes that are superbly prepared and presented.

Located in the suburb of Lynwood in an unpretentious converted house, the décor has a charming French country feel. There are fresh flowers on the tables, and in the winter a hearty fire creates a cosy intimate ambience. The service is impeccable thanks to the on-going staff training, and Daniel personally recites the menu with passion and enthusiasm. The award winning wine lists offers a good selection of local wines to accompany your meal, as well as reasonable priced imported ones.

The menu is small and changes frequently, and this would appear to be Daniel’s trump card, as the combination of ingredients and flavours is simply amazing. All the dishes on the menu are equally appealing, but a starter such as the goats milk cheese roasted with honey, served on beetroot with sweet red pepper and anchovy vinaigrette is bound to impress even the most jaded palate. Daniel ensures that the menu reflects both French and local cuisine with main course dishes including specialities such as the deboned quail with port sauce and truffle jus, or the medallions of springbok sirloin with cranberry sauce and pears poached in honey and red wine.
