Situated in Westville and only 15 minutes from central Durban, this establishment opened in 1983 and has the same owners - Gilbert and Annick Bordier - ably assisted by Annick's brother, Michel Lefort, in the kitchen. Since July 2004 they have relocated to a new address, continuing the tradition of a classy bistro with a warm atmosphere. Le Troquet is easily asccessible from the N3 and M13 and has ample, secure parking. The personal, warm and expert service has ensured their survival.

French is the word. Cooking French dishes in a foreign land is not easy, but, choosing the most available supplies, a Gallic flavour nevertheless dominates the different aspects of this cuisine with flavours from different parts of France. This is robust "cuisine regionale" and is more French than most restaurants in France. A bistro from the past with excellent decor and friendly management - the many visitors from overseas as well as their local clientele are their best testimony.

Gilbert produces regular surprises with a choice of daily specials (often 9 or more). The Wild Mushroom Pancake is outstanding as is the Seafood Pancake, which is filled with fresh mussels, shrimps and mushrooms in a white wine sauce. For meat lovers Le Fillet Au Poivre Vert - two fillet mignons flamed with brandy served with green peppercorn sauce - offers excellent value and the rabbit, cooked in cream and mustard, is a favourite of the faithfull clientele.
