Built on the site of an existing establishment, the Oystercatcher was virtually rebuilt from scratch in order to maximize the sea and harbour views with the incorporation of floor to ceiling windows. A newly completed outside deck has increased the seating space substantially and is extremely popular when the weather is good. A second outside deck allows charter boats to moor alongside when the tide is in to allow tour groups to disembark throughout the day. The ambience is relaxed and vibey and the Oystercatcher attracts a mixed clientele of locals, up-country business people and tourists.

The main section of the restaurant is light and spacious with a full bar and two fireplaces to provide a cosy ambience on cold winter evenings. The décor is simple and uncluttered to complement rather than compete with the sea and the sky. Adjacent to the main section is an enclosed deck specifically for smokers and this also has heaters for additional comfort in winter. A Tapas menu will shortly be introduced on the new outside deck and breakfasts are now available from 8.00 am onwards at weekends. Lunch-time specials are very reasonable and include a free glass of wine.

It goes without saying that Oysters are indeed a speciality on the menu, but there are other specials that deserve mention. The Seafood Platters are highly recommended and available as a mini or large (which can feed up to three people). The large platter consists of three crayfish tails, prawns, calamari, a selection of oysters, mussels, grilled and fried linefish, and is served with chips or rice. Not only does it offer a superb selection of assorted seafood but at R375.00 it is excellent value. There is plenty of choice for meat lovers including a delicious fillet steak and specials such as lamb loin chops, kassler or port fillet.
