Bank developed his love for cooking Thai food when during his studies at California State University when he worked as a kitchen assistant at the ‘Sanam Luang’ Thai restaurant in North Hollywood, California. In 2004, while pursuing a degree in International Relations at the Huron University in London, he spent his free time at his uncles “Thai Pepper Restaurant” in London, where he helped out as a pastry chef 4 days a week.
After finishing graduate school and becoming a commercially trained pilot, he visited the Republic of South Africa for the World Cup in 2010 and discovered that a great number of South Africans also loved Thai food. He was then challenged by a number of South African friends to open an authentic Thai restaurant in Pretoria, when at the time, less than a handful of Thai restaurants existed. To that end, he quickly returned to Bangkok to enroll in a professional chefs training course at the prestigious Dusit Thani Cooking Academy in Bangkok, where he spent over 400 hours mastering the art of Thai cooking and Thai culinary fruit carving.
Padbok Thai Restaurant finally opened its doors to the public in August 2011 where Chef Bank and his team of chefs from the Dusit Thani currently cook the best of Thai dishes 7 days a week. His signature dishes include “Pad Thai” cooked with Tiger Prawns, a tasteful Thai noodle dish renowned across the world for its zesty tamarind base and healthy ingredients such as Tofu and fresh bean sprouts. For the daring, Chef Bank will fire up his wok to create a fiery “Tom Yum” soup, guaranteed to put your taste buds to the test!
