We would love to offer you a very unique dining experience, as Turkish cuisine is considered one of the three finest cuisines in the world. The name A値a Turka is derived from an era somewhere around the 18th century. Where East meets West.... The combination of food, music, art and culture.

Our Philosophy
A great meal is not just about the food and wine, it is an emotional experience and we will therefore try our best to create an extraordinary ambiance that will transport our guests to an exotic foreign land.

A great meal is not one that fills you up; it is a journey that returns you to a source of pleasure you may have forgotten whilst exciting all of your senses. From the warm welcome you receive upon arrival; candles are lit and the sound of beautiful music surrounds your ears, to the contrasting flavors of our freshly prepared dishes which will send your taste sensation on a separate journey.

The beautiful lighting, priceless antiques and art adorning our walls are for your eyes to feast on, while the touch of our Persian carpets and comfortable pillows which are scattered across the Ottoman and Beirut Tent and the Gypsy harem, are for you to relax and unwind from all the tensions of the outside world. The sight of our skilled belly dancers gracing the floor with their talent, what more can you ask for but to let your mind indulge in the pleasure of an enchanted escape

Our History
A値a Turka began as the shared vision of Gokhan and Vannessa. A married couple, parents of two gorgeous sons and business partners in Ala Turka Restaurant. They met while working on Five Star Cruise Liners around the world. Both in the service industry; Gokhan food and beverage manager, working for Royal Caribbean International and Vannessa managed the Health Spas on board for Steiner Transocean- a British based company for 8 years.

Their goal was to bring an exciting new concept of dining, to the local restaurant scene.

A値a Turka the first one
To test the waters, Gokhan being from Turkey and Vannessa, from Lebanese descent designed the menu by combining the two cultures, but also infusing other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors to tempt the palate.

Not knowing how the South African culture was going to respond to their concept, they went ahead and opened an absolutely enchanting little Turkish Restaurant in January 2004, over 5 years ago in Garsfontein. From the day there doors opened, A値a Turka was the new buzz word, and due to the size of this little gem, it was hard to get a table, making it even more desirable.

A値a Turka became a very popular destination restaurant among locals, but they have a very large Embassy following as well. The venue was out grown from day one, but it was important to establish a strong following, and do enough market research before relocating to a bigger venue.

The new venue
It was time for change & challenge. Gkhan and Vannessa痴 creative juices were flowing and it was a time of expanding, growth and a fresh identity, without losing sight of where they were from. Irene Village Mall was the choice venue for the relocation which has since become the home of their continued vision.

Working together full time is a challenge for any couple, with character strength in different areas; they have become a strong and vibrant team.

They are both very passionate about service excellence. Their international background gave them an opportunity to work with so many cultures and people on very different levels in life, from famous movie stars to regular people.

Gokhan and Vannessa both have eye for perfection, and the flow and energy needs to be well balanced, the complete layout and d馗or was designed by themselves, as with their first location.

What they have created in this new shop in Irene Village, is awe inspiring, with 3 different types of seating. From floor seating on Persian cushions and pillows, to low benches that have been hand crafted, and they also offer normal upright seating.

Then there is the absolute attention to detail; from the original antique brass Ottoman Empire bathroom taps, to all the amazing antique knife collections in beautiful wooden box frames, adorning the hand painted walls of A値a Turka, an amazing antique Middle Eastern jewelry collection, again perfectly displayed in wooden box frames. The details alone all over the restaurant will keep you entertained for the evening.

The couple on their travels also collected coins and notes from many countries, and have the money collections also displayed in wooden frames on the walls, every piece of art in A値a Turka has a story, and a historyAs the old saying that goes

釘eauty is in the eye of the beholder"
